Obligatory Post

Spring Fever has struck.
I have 5 half-completed posts but would rather be outside enjoying the weather with the kids.

One of my favorite bloggers has posted a list of 6 weird things about her. And while noone loves me enough to tag me, in the interest of keeping this blog interesting, I have decided to do a list anyway. So there!

Six Weird Things About Me
1) My two secret food passions are: sweet gherkin pickles and peanut butter sandwiches and Wise Potato Chips dipped in Carvel Soft Serve Chocolate Ice Cream.
2) My second toe is longer than my big toe on both feet, and from a certain angle has been said to look like a penis.
3) I slept with a lesbian in college. (Hi Dad!)
4) Whenever I see the time 11:11, I can't help but think of an old television commercial for I-can't-remember-what but it had the address of "1111 Old Country Road in Westbury."
5) I have a penchant for pens, especially those with pretty colored ink.
6) I have scoliosis but you would never know because my body has compensated for the curve.

OK, how weird??? I grew upin New York City and although I have no idea what commercial you are talking about, I too, remember that address and tag from the commercial!

BTW, as a fellow Wicked Stepmom, love your blog!

It was Coronet furniture and for some reason in just popped into my mind out of nowhere. I had to look it up and I found it (thanks Google). So, there you go. Not as exciting as I'd like to think but still way better than Crazy Eddie.

I just had one of those 1111 Old Country Road blast-from-the-past-brain-burps too. For the life of me could not remember what business was located there.

I too can't think of the number "1111" without thinking of that store. And just found this post because it was 11 minutes after 11 and I said to my wife "old country road in westbury"

Was that the commercial that claimed to have "no talking orangutans"?

It's Coronet Furniture. Here's a commercial on You Tube:

Every time I wrote the date today, I kept have flashbacks of that commercial (I grew up in CT). I am relieved to know that so many other people have valuable synapses and neurons devoted to "1111 old country road, in westbury." And yes, they were the no talking orangutans people.

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you Wicked Stepmom for your post. 18 minutes ago it was 11:11 and I said to my partner "what was the business at 1111 Old Country Road in Westbury?" He didn't know as he grew up in another part of the country. I grew up at the Jersey Shore and that address is burned into my memory. Talk about a successful ad campaign!

I thought I was the only person in America who remembered that address and commercial! What a relief to know there are others who are haunted by it as well!

I think everyone must remember that commercial. It certainly was an effective commercial, even if you couldn't remember the product, 30 years later you know where to go to get it. I never understood the talking orangutans thing though... I do remember the guy from the commercial though. He kinda looked like BaBaBooey and had a bitchin' Tom Selleck-esque 'stache...

When the time 11:11 appears on a clock, I always repeat the address 1111 Old Country Road. This dates back to 1988 when I was pregnant with my son. The advertisement was for a baby store. I went to the store and bought a changing table. The merchandise was beautiful imported products, but they were very expensive.

Wow, this is insane! I'm now in Holland and I found this site, because the time hit 11:11. I had to explain to my Dutch husband why I called out the address. LOL.

Now I'm totally wondering if the US experimented with sublimial messaging with that commercial! :-)

Google auto completed after '1111 ol' ......must be a lot of people still thinking about this.
