Mother's Day Gifts for Stepmoms

Mother's Day is around the corner.
I know it's a holiday many Stepmoms dread.
(For many, MANY reasons.)
What does one buy for a Stepmom?
There's an abundance of Mommy bracelets, rings and charms out there.
I have my fair share of them.
But there is not much for Stepmoms.

LOOK NO FURTHER!

I found the perfect gift, and blogged about it in this is post from August 2007
I love it. Of course I bought it for myself but it was summer and there were no major holidays coming up and I am impatient.
Cinderella loves it so much that she wants a matching necklace that represents ME. With my name and birthstone.
Oh my gosh! It's like SO cyoooot and if I get my own then like we can match and stuff!!
*squeaaalllll!*
So go here now, browse and around and tell Beth Wicked Stepmom sent you.

And, I would be remiss if I didn't suggest that you might possibly find something here
(I know. Shameless plug! Sue me.)

Umm, I am not a step mom, but if I were, I would love these gift ideas!

And I think I shall sue you :)

I just stumbled on your blog in a round about way and it is super enjoyable!

I have to admit, I definitely dread mother's day. It's just...awkward.

But I love the necklace idea! It's unique and personalized and so adorable!

I guess I am lucky, in that it's never a holiday I dreaded.

Maybe it's b/c I became pregnant right away with Hansel, so it helped to fill the gap; maybe it's because I remained ambivalent over the holiday and what Cinderella thought of me (you know, if I had no expectations, then I couldn't get hurt).

For the first several years of our marriage, I always worked more on being a friend than a Mom. Now, eight years into it, I can say it would bother me if I weren't acknowledged - especially as I've taken on more of a parental role. Lucky for me, Prince Charming made sure she incorporated me into her thinking.

I hope one day the day leaves you with happier thoughts and memories. :)

Thank you, I hope so too :)

I think it's terrific that Prince Charming makes a point of making sure she thinks of you. I might have to talk to Dex about that. She loves to show me her "mother's day" crafts, and they really are beautiful, but it always feels so awkward when they say things like, "Thank you for brushing my hair, tucking me in, reading me stories, etc". Especially when I do those things too :(

I remain confident though that things will get better with time.

I'm learning that the "snub" is oftentimes NOT intentional or mean spirited at all. Cinderella almost ALWAYS thinks of her Mom first: she recognizes and acknowledges her more often, automatically defers to her Mom when it comes to school crafts or assignments where they have to choose someone whom they look up to.

Some of it, I think is in the guilt Cinderella has assumed onto herself b/c her Mom has led her to believe that she is the victim in the custody case - often saying things like "I have lost so much" or "I have had to give up so much." So I think Cinderella is trying to maker her Mom feel better b/c she lives with her Dad and me.

Also, some kids just relate better to one parent over another. Heck, Cinderella never thinks to acknowledge or focus on her Dad either - and she LIVES with Prince Charming and me! LOL

So, I don't see it as a Step vs. Bio parent thing at all. In my case, it's just that Cinderella relates better to her Mom... kinda like her BFF. (Which is a WHOLE other issue!)

Makes complete sense. You'd think I'd have better insight into the situation (my parents divorced when I was 4, and I've had 2 step-moms since).

Heh - I am ashamed to admit that I can be very selfish when it comes to things like this. I'm constantly wondering, "What did I do? Why doesn't she love ME?"
